A Cool View

An energetic crowd of 2,500 at the town center in Cool, welcomed the Amgen Tour of California, on Sunday, May 16 for “A Cool View”.
For an hour, the crowds lined the streets, five deep, in anticipation of the brief eight minute blur of excitement, as the pelaton whooshed by. Then as soon as it arrived, it was gone and the party began.

Trapper Herzog, station manager of KFOK, announced The Karaoke Killers All Star Band who took the main stage in the Cool Village center.  The "All Stars" treated the crowd to a jaw-dropping free concert of Stoneground favorites and classic blues rock. Event promoter, Kelly Stephens, founder of Blast Off Music Productions, jammed on the keyboards and guitar.   Tim Barnes and Sal Valentino, Stoneground original all-stars, waxed nostalgic.  More recent Stoneground members, bass player /vocalist Greg King and vocalist Dana Moret piped up,  while Steve Price, of Pablo Cruise and Stoneground, wailed on the drums. Jim Papastathis provided smooth guitar licks and Rick Metz entertained the audience with a little bawdy Sax humor and killer solos.

With a unique approach for the Amgen spectators, who generally come and go quickly...the "Come for the Race, Stay for the Party" concept provided for the best day that Cool has had in recent memory.
